Bromelia karatas is a species of the genus Bromelia. This species is native to Brazil, Mexico and Venezuela. The mature leaves are from 3-5cm wide and can grow up to 2.5m long with razor sharp spines. The fruits grow in clusters of up to 100. Fruits are from 6-12cm long and 1.5-2cm in diameter. The fruit is edible and tastes like pineapple. Traditionally the fruit is boiled slightly to reduce acidity.
